Welcome to Escaping Expectations!
We are escaping… from the expectations of everything we’re “supposed” to be doing at this age.
We quit our jobs, started homeschooling our kids, and are going to travel for as long as we can.
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
We left our old life in the rat race on July 1st, 2014.
We are rejecting the notion that we must spend the best and healthiest years of our lives working at our often thankless jobs, and have relatively little time with our kids as they grow up.
Life is too damned short.
You could say we’ve semi-retired.
By an average age of 40.
But, since we are only able to stay out of the rat race if we stick to a tight budget in low cost countries, we’re playing around with other ways to make money on the side. We’d like to have multiple sources of income, you know, to solidify our position as vagabonding too-young-to-be-retired semi-retirees. And if we can make more money, then we can live the high life and head for more expensive places (like Europe, and Australia for example), if we want.
We dreamers need to help each other out. So to that end, we’re going to share everything in the hopes that it helps you reach your own dreams of escape:
- how we made this first big step affordable (and ways that you can do it too)
- pre-trip planning and challenges (and how we overcome them)
- how the trip is going after we leave
- our experiences with homeschooling our kids as we travel
- our experiments at building multiple streams of income (our “insurance” for making this lifestyle permanent)
Thanks so much for stopping by – you made our day!
